world › vârsta la mare | age of the sea setting › post-apocalyptic earth | european seas timeline › year 2250 | 4 years after the Second Reckoning first reckoning › january 21 - april 4, 2212 | news of mysterious animal attacks begin to spread throughout asia and europe. description of species vary. majority of victims were ripped to shreds. bitten survivors grew severely ill within a day and died within three. unknown cause but highly contagious. symptoms of infection progressed as follows: nausea, sweating, chills, migraines, vomiting, respiratory failure, internal bleeding, shock, and then death. disease can be transmitted through air and direct contact. bodies of the deceased must be burned. evacuation and defense protocols have been executed as well as research into a cure. may 18 - august 16, 2212 | first reported attacks in north and south america. mysterious animals have been identified as new creatures. at least 100 different types in counting. each country appears to have variation in kind, but all of them are land-based. scientists are baffled. theory of rapid evolution is proposed. evacuation and defense protocols are still proceeding but wavering in their effectiveness. billions of people have died globally. summer of 2228 | first introduction of pirates to the high seas as an alternative means of living. eventually becomes freelance communicators between various continents. december 13, 2232 | cure to the infection has finally been found. most of the earth population have dwindled down to only a couple million worldwide. survivors have formed various fortified communities throughout. most forms of communication have been lost between them, however. creatures, now known primarily as fiare (dubbed by a romanian scientist), have only spread and increased in number. they remain a prominent threat to civilization. second reckoning › september 30, 2246 | with the joint effort of various countries (and help of pirates), scientists have created an airborne pathogen which should attack the immune systems of common predatory fiare throughout the world. they hope to wipe out the largest threats to humanity before they move onto lesser ones. it worked. however, in an ironic twist, release of the pathogen killed the intended targets but evolutionized a majority of other fiare, enhancing not only their physiology but effectively creating a new and deadlier viral strand from their bite. winter of 2247 | first major clash between pirates and land dwellers. tensions between the two groups have been growing ever since the release (and consequential effect) of the pathogen, each blaming the other. it finally came to a head in the united states when american land dwellers attacked australian pirates who had docked in order to restock their supplies. now, 2250 | human population of earth have dwindled to the mere thousands. pirates now refuse to have anything to do with land dwellers. relationship between them are extremely tense, to say the least. although, it must be noted that not all pirates and land dwellers feel this way toward each other. fiare continues to be an ever present threat and the world is shit.
